Thanks for reminding me (heavy sarcasm). I had the same class in college. And I've seen documentaries on slaughterhouses that would make me a vegetarian if I thought about it too much. (Things haven't changed too terribly much since Upton Sinclair's time.)
But look, guys - here's the rub - one of the reasons so many people have so much trouble with allergies and with certain other illnesses is that we're not getting ENOUGH exposure to the yucky things. We're keeping our kids TOO CLEAN. (Yes, there is scientific evidence of this, I'm not making it up.) My grandmother always used to shrug and say, "Well, you've gotta eat a peck of dirt before you die" whenever one of us kids would pick something up from the floor and eat it.
And I truly believe that one reason I have a "cast iron stomach" is that throughout my childhood I swam in the cow pond (lots of E-coli exposure, since cows sh*t where they drink they're so stupid), drank from the horses' water trough, and otherwise consumed enough germs to develop immunities.
But how did we get from bananas to this, anyway??? Here we go again, sliding off topic!
